500 KV Switchyard - Arizona

Saulsbury Industries constructed a 500kV switchyard for this power plant. The switchyard was constructed on a prepared pad that spanned over one half a mile in length. The switchyard was hailed as one of the largest in the world. Saulsbury Industries installed over eight hundred drilled piers and eighty-five hundred cubic yards of concrete. The switchyard was a breaker and a half scheme consisting of one 300MVA 500kV to 230kV transformer, twenty-three HVB 500kV dead tank breakers and sixty-one 500kV Southern States Switches, three 230kV Southern States Switches, with associated gear. The total project duration was 18 months in which all back feed dates were met on time and as scheduled.
